It is an exciting time - my turkey books are in hand and being signed and shipped out each day to excellent reviews! 'One Man's Close Calls' - a 208 page hardcover book that I spent the last few years writing. It begins with my outdoor life as a youth growing up on Maryland's Eastern Shore hunting geese, trapping muskrats, crabbing and unveils the great story behind how I got the name for my future call company - 'CLOSE CALLS'. It then moves right along and conveys with humor how I got into call making AND the pursuit of the Wild Turkey. It is a 90% 'Turkey Book' with chapters such as 'Unexpected Turkeys & Moonshine & Carolina Dreamin'. I entertain with many of the great adventures I have had and the friends and people I have met along the way. There are also chapters that teach what I have learned as a custom cal maker on how to get the most from your friction calls and a chapter titled 'Top 10 Secrets' on how to get your gobbler!



The book has a beautiful cover of art I commission an upstate New York artist to do from a hunt I had there this past spring. In the background is a 'Sugar Shack' where the owner has made Maple Syrup for the past 60 years. The turkeys always roost on this high hill of old Maple trees which the locals refer to as a 'Sugar Bush' and pitch down right in front of the old shack to begin their day - I am in a ground blind of branches to the left in the painting watching the most amazing display by gobblers courting hens I have ever seen. The book is also filled with sketches done by a Florida artist. Each sketch embellishes the story I am telling, 'embedded' into the text in a unique way.
